Meet Dr. Irin Kang, BDS (OTAGO)
Dr Irin Kang graduated from Otago University and joined Dent1st after completing her time as a House Surgeon at Wellington Hospital.
She is proficient across all aspects of dentistry, which means she can plan treatment for your whole mouth, not just the orthodontic part.
That matters. Straightening teeth is only one piece of the picture. Dr Irin also looks at any pre-orthodontic treatment you may need, any aesthetic work you want to consider, and any health factors that could influence your results.
Everything is planned together, so nothing is overlooked.
She is known for being calm, clear, and reassuring, particularly with patients who are new to orthodontic treatments or feeling a little nervous.
Patients who thought they had missed their opportunity as a teenager have been surprised by how straightforward and effective treatment can be as an adult.
Not every case can be treated with Angel Aligners. Your consultation is where Dr Irin reviews your situation and confirms whether this is the right option for you.
What to Expect at Your Consultation
Your first appointment is relaxed and informative. There are no impressions and no discomfort. Here is what happens:

She confirms whether Angel Aligners are a suitable option for your case
This consultation is completely free and carries no obligation. It is simply a chance to get the information you need to make a confident decision.
Dr Irin Answers Your Questions About Angel Aligners
How long does treatment take? It depends on how much movement is needed. Most cases finish under two years. Some are as short as a few months.
What does it cost? Angel Aligner treatment at Dent1st starts at around $4,000. Dr Irin explains all costs clearly at your consultation so you know exactly what is involved.
How often are the aligners changed? Every ten days to two weeks, depending on your treatment plan.
How are Angel Aligners different from Invisalign? They are different systems, but the science of how teeth move is the same. What matters most is the quality of the treatment planning and the diagnosis.
Will aligners affect my speech? Dr Irin is happy to answer this from personal experience. At the time of filming, she was wearing aligners herself. You genuinely cannot tell unless you are very close up.
Does it hurt? It’s not completely pain-free. The first day of a new aligner can feel a little uncomfortable as your teeth begin to shift. Most patients find they adjust quickly, and the discomfort is short-lived.
Why Patients Choose Angel Aligners
Near-invisible appearance
Angel Aligners are clear and close-fitting. Most people will not notice you are wearing them at all. For adults who are concerned about the look of traditional braces at work or in social settings, this is the main reason they choose aligner treatment.
Removable for eating, cleaning, and special occasions
You take your aligners out to eat and drink (anything other than water). That means no food restrictions and no awkward meals. For a special event, you can remove them for a few hours and put them straight back in when you are done. They need to be worn at least 23 hours a day for treatment to stay on track.
Easier to keep your teeth clean
Because the aligners are removable, you brush and floss exactly as you normally would. There are no brackets or wires to work around. This is better for your long-term oral health, and it is one of the key reasons we recommend aligner treatment to patients who want to maintain good hygiene throughout.
Fewer check-in appointments
With aligner treatment, you typically check in with Dr Irin every eight weeks. Traditional braces require visits every three to four weeks. For patients with busy schedules, that difference adds up.
Suitable for adults of all ages
Many of our Angel Aligner patients are adults who assumed orthodontic treatment was something they missed out on as teenagers. The field has developed significantly, and there are now effective options for adults at every stage of life. You are not too old. The consultation is the only way to find out for certain what is possible for you.

Is Angel Aligner Right for You?
Clear aligner treatment can address a wide range of concerns, including crowding, spacing, and mild to moderate bite issues. If you are considering orthodontic aligners on the North Shore, the best first step is always a proper assessment. Some cases are not suitable for aligner treatment, and some need preparatory dental work first. Dr Irin will be honest with you about where you stand and what your options are.
If cost has been a barrier, have a look at our finance options. We want to make this as straightforward as possible.
